Samuel Reshevsky was born in Poland on 26 November 1911, but emigrated to the USA with his parents in 1920. Reshevsky was a child prodigy and from the mid-1930s to the mid-1960s he was one of the strongest players in the world. He also won the US Chess Championship eight times, tying him with Bobby Fischer for the all-time record. Reshevsky died on 4 April 1992.
