No other world chess champion has ever thrilled the chess world like Mihail Tal (1936-1992). His star as world champion glowed only briefly, but it glowed with unprecedented intensity. With his combination art, his intuitive sacrifices, the young Tal overran his opponents, thrilling the chess world with his risky uncompromising attacking play and became the role model for many subsequent players.
